NEW ROCKY MOUNTAIN CHOCOLATE FACTORY OWNERS INDULGE IN SWEET OPPORTUNITY Owners Won Store in Steven L. Craig Business School Competition Lake Elsinore, California, December 14, 2010 -- Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory at Lake Elsinore Outlets recently re-opened under new ownership – but the new owners didn’t exactly buy the shop, they won it in a unique opportunity through the Steven L. Craig School of Business at Missouri Western State University. Graduate Rob Schimming wrote and presented the winning business plan to a Business School Committee, after being narrowed down to one of three finalists. Only Business School seniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 were eligible to apply for this unique opportunity. The judging committee – comprised of the Dean of the Craig School of Business; the recently retired Dean now coordinating the RMCF project; Steven L. Craig; a faculty member from the School of Business; the Chair of the School’s Advisory Council; an owner of multiple Subway franchise stores who has ties to the University; and two officials from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory – was impressed with Schimming’s presentation as well as wife Danelle’s retail background. “This is a very unique opportunity and I don’t know of any other business school that rewards students in this fashion,” said Carol Roever, Retired Dean of the Business School. “Rob impressed the judges with his analytical ability and business acumen. They are a hardworking couple who are committed to making the store a success.” The competition and store ownership represents a unique partnership between Steven L. Craig, the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and the Steven L. Craig School of Business at Missouri Western State University. The winning graduate becomes a business partner of Steve Craig who underwrites the start-up costs for the franchise operation. Over a period of time, the graduate repays the loan to Craig and then assumes sole ownership of the store. The Craig School of Business provides financial advice and consultation for three years. In return, the Schimmings agree to have an intern from the School work in the store; Rob will speak to current students about his business experience; and they will donate back to the School a portion of profits each year. Steven L. Craig is the founder of Craig Realty Group, which owns Lake Elsinore Outlets. This is the third Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory that the Business School has awarded, all at shopping centers owned by Craig Realty Group. The Schimmings met in college – Rob is a 2010 graduate of the Steven L. Craig School of Business at Missouri Western State University and Danelle is a graduate of the Communications Department at the University – and they were married last summer. They have relocated to Lake Elsinore to operate the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory store. Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, known as the Official Supplier to Santa Claus™, has a wide assortment of holiday boxes, gift baskets and seasonal goodies such as caramel apples and holiday tins of cocoa. The store is located at Lake Elsinore Outlets in Suite 180 near Osh Kosh B’Gosh, and can be reached at (951) 245-2490.
